EXPLOSIONS, GUNFIRE SHAKE MAIDUGURI

Maiduguri, the capital of Borno State was on Monday hit by multiple explosions militant Islamic sect members take on security operatives.
Eight suspected members of Boko Haram were reported killed in the blasts at the popular Fish Market of Baga Road in Maiduguri, with three persons injured.

Witnesses said traders at the market had alerted security operatives upon noticing unusual movement in the market.
AP reported that “The fighting began Monday in the city of Maiduguri, with at least three major explosions heard in a popular market in the city. A military spokesman said the army killed eight suspected members of the radical Islamist sect known as Boko Haram, while three civilians had been wounded.”
However, traders in the markets said they feared others had been killed in the fighting.
Boko Haram has claimed responsibility for series of attacks in the country as part of its violent campaign to impose a strict implementation of Shariah law, free its members in detention and retaliate for its members deaths.
